Coates ready to snub Man City for Liverpool

In-demand Uruguayan defender Sebastian Coates has revealed he plans to turn down late interest from Manchester City in order to join international team-mate Luis Suarez at Liverpool.

Coates, 20, has been the subject of a bid from the Anfield club this week - with a deal worth around £8 million set to be agreed between the Reds and Coates' current club Naci...onal.

Manchester City are also believed to have revived their interest in the uncompromising defender, after cooling their desire earlier in the summer following the signing of Stefan Savic. While Coates will study the offers from both clubs, he has admitted the presence of Suarez on Merseyside has tipped the balance firmly in Liverpool's favour.

He also claims the move to Anfield is a 'done deal'.

"I'd prefer Liverpool to Manchester City, but would need to see what they have to offer and would compare them," Coates told Uruguayan newspaper Ovacion. "But having the help of Luis Suarez would be very important. I will be going to England, we are just missing a few details now.

"The Liverpool offer ticks all boxes, so fair to say it's a done deal. Luis's success is important for me as another Uruguayan joining.

"Liverpool is a club with great tradition and history, and Luis would be a great help to me. Suarez has spoken to Kenny Dalglish and his managers about my signing.

"He said it will be great having a Uruguayan with him, we chatted for quite a while, as he is someone I know well."

Having attracted interest from around Europe, Coates is delighted to finally be on the verge of making the switch to the Premier League.

"My intention was always to wait, there were many rumours that I was wanted in England, but nothing concrete. Fortunately we have now received the offer," he said.

Sebastian Coates will arrive on Merseyside in the next 48 hours to complete his £7million move to Liverpool.

Nacional accepted Liverpool’s offer on Wednesday.

Liverpool’s Alberto Aquilani has joined AC Milan on loan and Dani Pacheco has joined Atletico Madrid on loan.

Liverpool keen on Manchester City striker Craig Bellamy



Liverpool are weighing up a move to bring Craig Bellamy back to Anfield, but only if Manchester City are willing to let him go on a free transfer.

Bellamy, 32, is under consideration by Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish as a back-up to his £58m strikeforce of Luiz Suarez and Andy Carroll.

The Welshman has been told he has no future under manager Roberto Mancini.

Bellamy, who has also recently been linked with Sunderland, is believed to be on a contract worth £95,000 a week.

Liverpool are willing to offer the much-travelled striker - who endured a single frustrating season at Anfield in 2006-2007 when he scored seven goals in 27 appearances - a lucrative deal but it is understood that any significant progress depends on City being willing to hand him a free transfer. Bellamy was an unused substitute in the 2007 Champions League final against AC Milan in Athens and was involved in an well-publicised incident when he attacked then team-mate Jon Arne Riise with a golf club on a team-bonding exercise before Liverpool met Barcelona at the Nou Camp. Bellamy left Liverpool for West Ham United before enjoying early success under his former Wales boss Mark Hughes at Manchester City. But he soon fell from favour under Mancini. and spent last season on loan at Cardiff before returning to Eastlands after the Welsh side failed to win promotion from the Championship.
Celtic - where he has also been on loan - have expressed their interest but Bellamy is understood to prefer a move that allows him to stay in the Premier League.

Molby: “He needs games and he needs time to get sharp”

Liverpool legend Jan Molby believes that Andy Carroll is not yet showing his best form for Liverpool. He wrote in his column for the Liverpool Echo:

“Carroll is still yet to find his best form, and to see him take his goal so well was a real positive sign. I think he is one of those players who takes a bit of time to hit peak form. He is not someone who can just drop straight back in and hit the ground running, he needs games and he needs time to get sharp. At the moment I’d say he looks as fit as he has ever been, and now it is just a case of matching that with sharpness, which looks like it is improving game upon game.”
Molby also believes it will take time for both Charlie Adam and Jordan Henderson to adapt to how the Reds play:
“At Blackpool , Adam had a team designed to get the best out of him, and had pretty much a free role to carry the team forwards. The side had genuine width and lots of protection for him in the midfield. He has less of that here, and so will need to get used to a different system of play. Henderson is a high-tempo player, he likes to use his energy to close down and get across the pitch. With him it is a case of finding his best position on the field – which could well be in the centre, long-term – before we see the very best of him.”
