Decision On Hypo Alpe Adria Rescue Seen Before Dec 10
FRANKFURT (Dow Jones)--A decision on the rescue of troubled Austrian bank Hypo Group Alpe Adria is expected to be finalized within a few weeks, a person familiar with the situation told Dow Jones Newswires Tuesday.
The person said the three owners of the bank are likely to make a decision ahead of the company's annual general meeting, scheduled for Dec. 10.
Germany's state-owned Bayerische Landesbank, Hypo Alpe Adria's largest shareholder--controlling about two-thirds of the bank--on Monday had failed to reach a decision with representatives of the Austrian state of Kaernten and Austria's Grazer Wechselseitigen Versicherung. Kaernten holds a 12.4% stake inHypo Alpe Adria, and Grazer Wechselseitigen Versicherung holds a 20.4% stake.
The person familiar with the situation said additional capital requirements of Hypo Alpe Adria were discussed during the meeting on Monday.
There is still a possibility that Hypo Alpe Adria will request state aid from the Austrian government. The bank already received EUR900 million in aid at the end of 2008.

Hypo Alpe-Adria May Receive Help From Austria, Handelsblatt Says
By Oliver Suess
Nov. 30 (Bloomberg) -- Hypo Alpe-Adria Bank International, the ailing lender owned by Bayerische Landesbank, may receive more aid from the Austrian government as it regards the bank as “systemically important,” Handelsblatt reported.
A failure of the Klagenfurt, Austria-based lender would lead to “unforeseen consequences” in countries such as Croatia, Bosnia and Serbia, the newspaper cited an unidentified spokesman of the Austrian financial market regulator as saying.
